29 One Second Every Day

It’s hard to believe that this is now my tenth One Second Every Day video. Since my 20th birthday I have taken a short video every day, which means I have captured a whole decade and one third of my life. That blows my mind! I originally thought my audience for these videos was others, but I’ve learned that they’re actually for an older, future me who wants to remember the great moments of life. If you enjoy watching them too, that’s simply a bonus. A few other things that I’ve learned from a decade of doing this:

1. God is faithful! When I reflect on my journey I am blown away by His faithful love towards me. 

2. You overestimate what you can do in one year, but wildly underestimate what you’ll do in ten. 

3. Relationships and people are what you remember most. 

4. Once you become a parent, your day’s most memorable moment often happens in your living room. And you wouldn’t have it any other way. 

5. When it comes to finding music for these videos, Ben Rector is my jam.

Now will I keep doing these videos into the next decade? For as cool as it is watching myself grow from a college kid to now a husband and a father, imagine how much more amazing it would be to watch my family grow in the next decade. Cheers to another ten!

Chances are that if you are reading this, you are pretty familiar by now with my One Second Every Day video. Since my 20th birthday I have taken a short video every day, and for the past nine years this has been a fun and unique way to document the happenings of my life. This year there were significant happenings! Spoiler alert - we had a baby! I'm not at all offended if you just skip right ahead to the part where our little girl comes in. She is pretty stinkin' cute after all! This fun little project that started in college has now grown with me. It was beyond incredible to watch this year unfold from discovering we were pregnant to welcoming our little Riley and watching her grow. I hope you enjoy watching!

This has been by far the strangest year for my One Second Every Day video. This year's video literally starts with Michigan's stay at home order taking effect at midnight on my birthday. I would have never thought then that one year later COVID-19 would still be a major force in our lives. But you don't need me to tell you how bizarre 2020 was; we all lived it. I’ll skip the sappy reflection and offer just a little lesson I learned this year: even from under a mask, people can see you smile. And a smile goes further than you might think. This video is my year-long effort to find something worth smiling about each day. Thank you for letting me share this video and I hope you enjoy watching!

26 One Second Every Day

Welcome to year seven! For those new to my videos, for last seven years (gosh it's been a while!) I take a short video every day and put it all together here into a ten minute montage. It's a fun way for me to capture life as it goes by, and I appreciate people letting me share!

It feels strange writing an annual reflection amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. But perhaps it's the perfect time to be reflecting, because it puts things into perspective. As the world dramatically and rapidly changes, I try to remind myself that the world is still spinning and that Jesus is still King. Putting this video together has allowed me to remember the great things that God did this year. From marrying my best friend, taking a dream trip to Hawaii, taking big strides in my faith walk, and getting settled in our new city, this year has been amazing. So even as the world around us shifts, I am reminded of the great things God has done and will continue to do. As always, I hope you enjoy watching!

It’s year six folks! Six years ago as a college sophomore my cousin and I stumbled across this idea, and since then it has grown into something really unique. For the last six years I have a taken a short video every day and brought it all together here for your enjoyment. It's nothing special - no Academy Awards will be given for my creative and videography skills - but it's 100% raw me. I have fun with it each year, and I'd like to thank everyone for letting me share!

You may notice that this year is pretty heavily geared towards a cute little blonde. You also might notice that this was a pretty momentous year for that cute little blonde and I! Little does she know that when she when she agreed to marry me, she also agreed to star in this video for essentially the rest of her life. From becoming a fiancé to relocating to a new job, this year has challenged me to draw on faith and step up in ways I never anticipated. It's really neat to look back each year and see how God shapes your life one day at a time. Anyways, I hope you enjoy watching!
